Most of us have seen at least one episode of the Brady Bunch. Mike and Carol and their instantly happy blended family. No ex-spouses, no in-laws, in fact no problems that can’t be solved within a thirty minute episode. For good or for bad the real Brady Bunch families of the world deal with real kids and real problems.
“Where the Hell is Alice?” is about our family. Ten years ago I went from being a mother of two boys and two girls to a step-mother of 2 boys and a girl and until recently, we had seven teenagers all at once. This book has been in the making for years. When I started writing about what it was like to navigate the world of step-parenting and parenting these kids I was stupidly under the impression I could nail this! Clearly I had no idea what I was doing or what I was in for. Although I haven’t quite nailed it I am getting at least a B+ for effort so if nothing else take my advice because I’m not using it.
